Bantry Bay Farm CSA

Last year we had a fantastic fifth year!  With 85 families taking part in our 18-week Community Shared Agriculture program we delivered a variety of fresh, tasty veggies to families all around Charlotte County.  Members paid at the beginning of the year, and then from July to October came to the farm each week to pick up their share of available vegetables. A weekly newsletter was sent out to let everyone know what was in their bag and what to do with it. We tried to vary the content of the bags as much as possible and customized slightly according to member preferences. At the end of the season, members filled out a survey to help us prepare for 2012.

Throughout each season over 30 different veggies appear in the bags! Early on, it's a lot of different greens with radishes, peas and broccoli, followed by roots like carrots and beets, and then later in the season you'll find warm weather crops such as tomatoes, squash, and beans.  We also try to include a few rare items through the season to spice up your life!  Don't worry, we also include recipes and general information about these items so you won't be frustrated with fava beans or confused with celeriac!

Some extra features that we had in 2011 were: Greens Shares ($35), for those who wanted extra greens every week; Assisted Shares, which gave our members a chance to donate extra money towards shares for low income families; and an 'extras' box for those picking up to take any extra veggies we had or leave any unwanted veggies from their bag for other members.

After a successful fifth year, we are excited to offer this opportunity again in 2012.  Our 2012 shares cost $306 and a family share(double) costs $590.
